Wicklow Heritage Buildings Weekend
Wicklow’s Heritage Buildings Show 2015: a weekend of traditional building skills and conservation talks takes place in a marque adjacent to the OPW’s Visitors’ Centre, Glendalough and The Glendalough Hotel, respectively, on Saturday 19th September and Sunday 20th September 2015 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, organized by The Irish Georgian Society, Wicklow County Council and the Office of Public Works. It will be a one-stop destination for owners in need of accurate, impartial and free advice on caring and repairing their old buildings. Throughout the weekend over two-dozen craftspeople will demonstrate key traditional skills needed for the conservation of old buildings, including sash window repairs; use of lime-based mortars; decorative plasterwork; ironwork; slate roofing; thatching; mud and earth construction; stained glass and fanlight conservation; stone carving; dry stonewall construction; and clock restoration to name a few. The demonstrations will be complemented by information stands hosted by the Irish Georgian Society, Wicklow County Council’s Heritage Office, The Heritage Council, the Building Limes Forum Ireland and the CIF Heritage Contractors Register, where expert advice on planning law, insurance and finance can be gathered. The exhibition will be complemented by two-days of interactive talks on the history, maintenance and repair of Wicklow’s historic, period and traditional building delivered by leading authorities from such bodies as the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and ICOMOS Ireland. Adult Art Classes
Class focuses on painting and drawing, and is suitable for artists of all levels of experience. In the class we work with a variety of materials and learn techniques and skills specific to each. The closing date has been extended on these courses until December so there is still an opportunity for you to take that step to build your confidence on line. Cover the basics and learn how to email, skype, shop online, pay car tax and much more. It cost €20 for 4 x 2 hr course and it is free to those over 65. The classes are small and the lessons are taught in a relaxed and fun way with plenty of time for everyone. We will be running a few of these popular courses so days may vary. National Eucharistic Congress 2015
The National Eucharistic Congress will take place in Knock Shrine over the weekend of 26 and 27 September. The congress is being organised by Bishop Kevin Doran, who has been appointed National Delegate for Eucharistic Congresses. A bus has been arranged to take pilgrims to this important event on Saturday 26th. It will leave Lynhams at 7.30 am sharp. Dragon Day with Val Young
If you love dragons or would like to learn more about them (and yourself) come along to the Dragon Day with Val Young which will take place in the Brockagh Centre on Saturday 3 October (10 am to 5 pm). We will be connecting with the Dragons of Ireland and the Beings of this sacred land. We will be working with the Dragons of the different elements and assisting them in what they do for the Earth.
