 Sustainable Energy Communities

A number of people from the Laragh / Glendalough area have come together to consider setting up a Sustainable Energy Community (SEC). SECs enter into partnership with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) who will provide a range of supports, including financial aid, for energy-related projects in Laragh and the surrounding area. The SEC programme is an integrated community approach which brings public, private and community sectors together to work towards the common goal of switching from our current unsustainable use of fossil fuels to a low carbon, low energy system while at the same time improving the comfort of our homes, work places and public buildings. Working together as a community will enable us to achieve much more than would be possible at an individual level. The recent IPCC report warns we have just 12 years to act on climate change before the planet reaches a tipping point that would see irreversible global temperature rises in excess of 1.5°C. So, if you wish to join us on this interesting and important journey to a more sustainable future, contact Finian McEvoy (086-2476822) or Noel Quinn (086-3112835). Further details will be in the next issue.
