Laragh Glendalough Notes Week Beg 21th July

Join us for a Coffee Morning

We are brewing something wonderful for our community. It is to raise funds to launch a memory café right here in Laragh. Come enjoy coffee, tea, treats and great company, all for a good cause. The event is on Saturday, August 9th at 11am until 1pm in the Glendalough Sanctuary A98 VK68. 

All proceeds will help set up our new Laragh memory café. A memory café is a safe and welcoming place offering support, conversation and community to those living with dementia and their families. Suggested donation €5, to include tea/coffee and cake.A raffle, homemade bakes and music on the day. Together we can make a difference. Active Retirement Laragh

Our Active Retirement Group are currently enjoying their Summer break. The Committee will be returning for a meeting Tuesday 26th August to discuss their upcoming day trips planned for September.

The Active Retirement group members will be officially back on Tuesday 16th September 10.45am – 12.15pm. There will be music on the day and they will also be going for their monthly lunch.

The Committee has day trips, various workshops and activities planned from September to December.  We’d like to encourage anyone who loves arts & crafts or any other hobby, maybe you’ve learned new skills and would like the space to practice and share your skills with other members, come along and join us. We always welcome new members to join our group.

St. Colmans Family Fun Day

Have a family fun day out on Sunday 27th of July at 2pm in St. Colmans, Rathdrum. A fundraising event to benefit the residents of St Colmans. Raffle will be held on the day with live music and the wheel of fortune. Plus lots of other fun events on the day!

International Bog Day

On Sunday July 27th, International Bog Day 2025, we will be hosting a guided walk from Wicklow Gap car park at 10am, focussing on the plants and features of Wicklow’s blanket bogs, and including discussion on the restoration works currently underway in the Wicklow Mountains National Park.

Booking is not required. This is a free event.

Parking at the Wicklow Gap car park is free.

Duration: approx. 1-1.5 hours.

Please dress for the outdoors and wear warm clothing, good shoes or walking boots, and bring waterproofs, just in case. Insect repellent is also recommended and, as this is an outdoor walk, there is a risk of tick bites – participants should be sure to check for ticks after the walk.

Family Fun Day

Family Fun Day at Glendalough Visitor Centre

August 17th, 2025 10.00am to 5.00pm

Come to Glendalough Visitor Centre with all the family to celebrate National Heritage Week 2025. We will start off the day with a family friendly tour of the Monastic Site led by our OPW guides followed by LEGO Workshops led by famous LEGO Artist Jessica Farrell. Try out your skill as an intrepid archaeologist with the BIG DIG led by The School of Irish Archaeology on the lawn of the OPW Visitor Centre and bigger kids can try our their skills on building a natural garden fence led by Aoife Patterson and Pat Reid from Wicklow Willow.

This is a free event and will be operated on a first come first served basis.

Please note that car parking charges apply to park in Glendalough Visitor Centre and the surrounding car parks.

This event is being hosted by the OPW in collaboration with the Glendalough Heritage Forum and co-funded by The Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council and The Heritage Council through the County Wicklow Heritage Plan.

There is a  clothes bank and bottle/can bank at the back of the centre. If you like to read, we have a good collection of second hand books(adult/teens & kids) to choose from inside the lobby.
