Mountain Skills Training

BOS Mountain Skills 1 Training Course is a two day course is scheduled for the  9 & 10  August in the Brockagh Centre, Laragh.   Wicklow. This course includes map-reading and simple navigation techniques, recognition of natural features, distance measurement and timing of walks. Mountain hazards are also covered, as is personal equipment such as correct clothing and emergency equipment. This course is run by accredited mountain skills providers with Mountaineering Ireland.

Martial Art Summer Camp

Martial Art Summer Camp will be held at The Brockagh Resource Centre from the 18th-22nd of August from 10am to 2pm for ages 5 to 14 years, cost 65 euro. No previous martial art experience required, included martial arts are Tae Kwon Do, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Weapons. Instructors are Garda vetted, Insured and paediatric first aid qualified. Laragh IT

Wonder Years Childcare

Wonder Years at the Brockagh Centre is now taking enrolments for September. National Park

Wicklow Mountains National Park.  Family Fun Days will take place in the Education Centre each Thursday  until  21 August (2 to 4 p.m).  Parents are invited to bring their children (aged 4 to 12 years) to a mixed afternoon of nature-based activities.  Please note that an adult must stay with the children, and be prepared to help. No dogs are allowed.  Booking is essential and will be taken from 9 am one week prior to each session on 0404-45656 (Monday to Friday).

 Bat Talk and Walk

Join us for a Bat Talk in the Education Centre at 7.30 pm on Wednesday August 13th.  Aimed at both children and adults, this talk should dispel some of the myths about bats and entertain you with the true facts.  If you wish, you may then take part in the Bat Walk which will start from the Information Office at 8.30 pm.  Booking is not required.  Participants should bring insect repellent and a torch.  For more details, please phone 0404-45425.  No dogs are allowed at these events.  The events are free to attend but the Upper Lake car park (Wicklow Co. Co.) has a €4 charge.

 

Glendalough & District Community Alert

Glendalough & District Community Alert is currently working on setting up a TEXT ALERT SERVICE for the surrounding area in conjunction with An Garda Síochána. This service is at the moment in operation in other areas in the country and indeed the Roundwood area is also in the process of setting up the same scheme. The service has proven to be of significant benefit in the prevention of crime. Completed forms, together with the €10 registration fee, should be placed in an envelope in the secure box in the Centre.  The box will be available from 9am to 5 pm each day from Tuesday 5to Friday 8 August and from Monday 11 to Friday 15 August inclusive.  Spare registration forms are available in the Centre.

 

Mining Heritage Walk at Glendasan

Meet at the Hero Mine in Glendasan at 7.30 pm on Monday 25 August for a fascinating two-hour long walk through the mining heritage of Luganure.  Led by Dr. Sharon Schwartz and others, this event is jointly organised by Wicklow Uplands Council and Roundwood Historical Society.  Booking is not required and admission is free.  Further information can be obtained by phoning 01-2818406.

St. Kevin’s Way Pilgrimage

Come along to the Glendalough Visitor Centre car park at 10 a.m. on Saturday 23 August if you would like to join an inclusive, joyful pilgrimage walk over the Wicklow Gap along St. Kevin’s Way to Glendalough.  The event is being organised by the Friends of St. Kevin’s Way.  To book or for more information, phone 086-4090289 or email bebhinnramsay@gmail.com

AA Meetings

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night.  If you think that you may have a problem with alcohol please come along.
